Why It Matters That Bob Iger Makes Nearly 1000x More Than His Workers
Earlier this week, Yahoo News released a video of Walt Disney’s great-niece, Abigail, calling out Walt Disney Company (WDC) CEO Robert Iger on the massive disparity between his $66 million annual salary, and the $59,434 annual salary of the average WDC employee. In the interview, Ms. Disney was quoted as saying
“Bob needs to understand he’s an employee, just the same as the people scrubbing gum off the sidewalk are employees. And they’re entitled to all the same dignity and human rights that he is.”
This is far from the first time Iger has been called on the carpet about the salary gap and pay practices of the company he oversees. In fact, it’s not even the first time Abigail Disney herself has called him out on it. But, so far, all attempts to sway Mr. Iger to either reduce his own salary, or even provide a realistic answer to the question of how the company’s pay practices are being improved result in references to the HR department regarding workplace education initiatives.
